At Enter the Blues, we believe that one of the most important aspects of a competition should be your social dancing skills. So that's what we're putting to the test in this year's J+J competition. Prelims will proceed as normal- dance with several people to several songs, and get judged individually by a panel of judges. However, in finals, you willnot be paired with someone and judged as a couple. You will again dance with several dancers to several songs. And in addition to competing, you are judging. Each contestant will rank anyone they dance with in finals, from first to last place. Those scores will be combined with the scores our judges give, to determine the winners. As always, you will be judged on things like musicality, movement quality, and lead-follow skills- but this time, how you make your partner feel will have a much bigger impact! Entry fee is $5.
Jack and Jill - Invitational At Enter the Blues, we are pleased to offer for the first time, an invitation only Jack and Jill. We will be having a best of the best in a self-judging format. We will be sending out invites to this competition in January, so please go ahead and register for the Open Jack and Jill, we will refund your entry fee if you are chosen to participate in the invitational. This will take place on Friday evening and is free.
In our strictly competition this year, we're looking for the couple who has it all. In the interest of preserving dance time, we'll be playing both jazz and blues style music. Prelims will consist of couples dancing to several songs. Our judges will choose the finalists, who will dance in jam-style finals. Couples will be judged on musicality, movement, partnership- the usual. Entry fee is $5.
This is our most popular competition, and the highlight of our Saturday night dance, and in recognition of the hard work our choreographers and performers put in, we're offering a cash prize for the winning choreography this year. Once again, a piece will classify as a team piece (4 or more dancers), a couple piece (2 dancers) or a solo piece (3 or fewer dancers), and an individual may compete in two different pieces, as long as they are not the same division (so Jane can do a solo and a team piece, but not two solo pieces.). There will be one overall first, second, and third place. There will be a prelim for this competition, which will be done via submitted video. Deadline for the prelim submission is February 8th; any choreography contestants who miss this deadline will be considered absent from the prelims, and will not make finals. Entry fee is $5 per person per piece.
Solo Blues. Just. Solo. Blues.
We miss solo blues for its own sake, so we're bringing back our beloved solo blues competition. Not cutting. Just solo dancers, taking turns, dancing with to the music. We'll have a prelim round (format tbd), and a finals that are run like any other comp; all skate, two spotlights, all skate. Entry fee is $5.
